The School:

Cultivating Classically-trained Christian Leaders

The Garden School’s classical approach arose out of the desire to provide a challenging, high-quality education that would provide emotional, intellectual and spiritual nurturing for the children. Classes are designed around a study of the flow of western history from Ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome and Israel to the present day. We use an integrated, unit-study approach that emphasizes experiential education and classic literature.

Each year a drama or musical production is carefully selected to crystallize the learning in the historic time studied. The whole school community is involved in all areas of production, including set construction, costumes, painting, music, lighting, etc… The play also reinforces public-speaking and team-building skills.

Latin, formal logic and rhetoric classes are a hallmark of the older students’ program. Additionally, a survey of the humanities is an integral part of completing this well-rounded education. By exploring the great classics and thinkers down through the ages, our students learn to think more deeply about the world and themselves.

Parents are given a curriculum guide with suggested resources and receive training and support to tutor their children at home. Specialists and tutors are available when needed.

We are a two-day-a-week private school.  Our school days are Mondays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at our New Castle campus with a full third day option on Tuesday.

The Blog:

Welcome to The Garden School Journal!

It’s hard being a parent. Harder still to be both parent and teacher. But hardest of all is feeling like you’re alone.

That’s why this blog exists. We believe in you and your right to teach your child in the way you choose-whether that means through home schooling, private school, or otherwise. But we also know it can be a lonely calling. We know, because we’ve been there.

We wanted to create a place where you as a parent could be equipped, encouraged, and empowered. But we also wanted to create a community of parents who came alongside each other, regardless of age or experience.

We envisioned a place where older moms gave advice to new moms just starting out-a place where triumphs were celebrated, teachers refreshed, and ideas exchanged.

That’s why we’re here. To help support you. To share with you. But most of all, we’re here because we believe in you.

Join us every Friday for practical tips and encouragement from parents just like you.

You can find out more about who we are under the “Writers” tab.

Thank you so much for stopping by, and we look forward to getting to know you!
